Henry Hough was first given the grant of land on the site of Bondi Junction in the year 1832, where he built a wind-powered flour mill.
In the year 1854, the first hotel in the area opened in the area named The Waverley Tea Gardens. The first house in the area was Waverley House, built in 1827 by Barnett Levey, on the current site of Waverley Street. Bondi Junction neighbors the world-famous beach known as Bondi Beach.
