Bondi Junction is an eastern suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located east of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of Waverley. Henry Hough was first given the grant of land on the site of Bondi Junction in the year 1832, where he built a wind-powered flour mill.
In the year 1854, the first hotel in the area opened in the area named The Waverley Tea Gardens. The first house in the area was Waverley House, built in 1827 by Barnett Levey, on the current site of Waverley Street. Bondi Junction neighbors the world-famous beach known as Bondi Beach. The area was named after the tram lines were extended to Bondi Beach, Charing Cross, and Bronte.
It is a largely commercial area that has undergone many changes since the late 20th century. During that time, many pubs and restaurants were also established in the area. By 1930, the area had grown into a major entertainment and commercial centre.
Popularly known as Beach town, Bondi Junction has now developed into a huge shopping hub where you can shop for top brands like Gucci and Prada. Local outdoor markets also feature designer showrooms. You can spend the evening enjoying your favorite movie and having fun at your favorite bar in the suburbs.
The famous Bondi Beach is near the suburb. The beach is very popular with tourists, day trippers, and backpackers. The beach is famous for its glistening ocean and sand. The area features a laid-back coastal lifestyle, café culture, boutique shops, and adventurous water games. Bondi Beach is also famous for the “Barmy Army” of British tourists, who annually gather on its sands for Christmas.
Apart from this, Bondi Junction has many heritage-listed buildings. Popular ones are Italianate home, Llandaff Street; Ben Eden, Paul Street; Blair Athol and Euston, Woodstock Street; Charles Terrace and Glen Mervyn, Denison Street; Myall and Cintra, Mill Hill Road; Congregationalist Church, Botany Street; Clementson Park, Ebley Street; Fingleton Reserve, Waverley Crescent; Hallena, Waverley and Cotswald Hall, Dalley Street.
